"Shaped by Ice", at the Severn Studio, Brantwood House, Coniston, Cumbria, ran for seven weeks in 2014. Brantwood was once the home of the eminent nineteenth-century art critic, educator and social thinker John Ruskin.
The ice ages ended some two hundred lifetimes ago, bridging the gap between a human timescale and a geological one. I'm interested in landscape as an object that's continually changing. In western Canada ice is still shaping the land and we can see, on a grander scale, what Cumbria may once have looked like.
